Born Augustus Gabriel Holmes to a minor noble house on the Isle of Wight, which is positioned just off the coast of mainland England, Augustus was the third son of the prestigious Governor Robert Augustus Holmes. While most of this rank was achieved through personal accomplishments, the Holmes family was closely tied to their mainland counterparts who oversaw acres of land for the British Empire. As such, a certain level of respect was demanded when addressing the Holmes, though this was greatly reduced from being so far from their native roots in the heart of Hampshire.

At an early age, Augustus, much like his brothers before him, was groomed to accept the teachings of commanding a naval ship in the Royal British Fleet to earn his own place in House Holmes through trials of combat. At age six, Augustus was taught formally in a naval academy on the mainland and informally by his brothers that were trained the same way years before. Swordplay, marksmanship, and other skills were also expanded upon during his stay on the mainland in the case of being boarded or actually mounting a melee offensive. Years passed with the young sailor growing more competent in the arts of sailing and commanding a vessel. However, it would not be until mid summer of 1702 that Augustus would be accepted as a war under a captain out at see.

Being far at sea and away from home had many adverse effects on Augustus' impressionable mind, but mind effects nor the cold of the wind could hinder the young teenager as long as he was under the British flag that his ship flew proudly. Numerous ships were destroyed while Augustus observed the captain with the other wards stationed on the ship, gaining even more experience on how to react during times of combat. For 9 years this dramatic learning process greatly increased what not even the best of text books could teach.

As a Holmes, Augustus rose through the ranks with both personal prowess and family connections inside the British Empire. Through this, the eventual rank of captain was given as well as a new ship that was to aid to counter the Spanish, French, and pirates in the Caribbean. With these orders, the captain set out with an over zealous mind set to purge pirates and their corruption from the seas to bring forth order and prosperity where there was only chaos and unpredictability. Hundreds of pirates were captured and executed for their crimes at the hands of Augustus within only three years as a captain. News of his exploits brought fear into the heart of pirates while the British, namely his family, were proud to call him a naval officer.

Augustus continued this for a number of years, though was gradually slipping away from the British Empire as he dealt with more and more pirates - slowly craving a treasury and reputation that these pirates had. Yet, Augustus could never see himself lowering himself to this level. He began to fill his mind with ambitious thoughts of running a smuggling empire under the guise of protecting the crown. Through this, Augustus ran private shipments of goods on his ship as he traveled from port to port, earning a secret identity as a smuggler and, more importantly, a large coin purse.

By 1716, Augustus had a small fortune that he invested heavily into the affairs of his family and to by off people who knew too much. While his purse slowly faded away to keep prying eyes off of him, Augustus used his operations to smuggle elsewhere around the world to expand his investments. Prizes and trophies of his accomplishments came in in the form of many things, which was usually just sent back to his manor that he inherited from his father's death. The only thing that wasn't was a baby gorilla, who Augustus named Bear for his ferocity against others.

By January 1720, Augustus sent his trading ships all over the world, leaving him with nothing but his loyal companion Bear for the moment. It was in this eventful year that Augustus signed onto a British merchant ship that was traveling to Nassau so that he may continue his hunt for pirates in the Caribbean.
