Specifying the Aerian Economy! Empty
PostSubject: Specifying the Aerian Economy!   Specifying the Aerian Economy! EmptyWed Feb 20, 2013 10:03 am

This thread will serve as a base resource for me to work out the finer details of the workings of the NORMAL Surnan Economy.

What I need from you peoples, is, mostly, what you know about the real world, and what you know about Surna.

Here are the major markets at play in Surna, and how established they are in my material:

::BASE WORKFORCE::
Laborers: Simple peons, should have these in abundance.
Large Laborers: Bigger peons. How many? A good amount, most likely, while not everyone is a big guy, they're around.
Farmers: Very important. Doesn't include gardeners.
Hunters/Pastors: Animal raisers, hunters, and the like. Could be a good bunch.
Artisans: Skilled Laborers, Count thereof? Doesn't include servants.
Specialists: Heavily Skilled Laborers, example: Potion Master. Probably a good deal less than Artisans. Count?
Mercantile: Alllllll of your business middlemen up in here. Probably a bunch. Includes transporters of goods.
Scribes: Workers who use writing in their jobs. Going to assume pretty much teachers, historians, writers...
Mathematicians: As an AP Physics student, bless these guys. Hard stuff, wouldn't be many.
Protection: Guard force. Need them, as recent events would show.
Civil: Maids, cooks, nannies, gardeners, etc.
Clergy: All them holy folk
Buccaneers: Sailors! Fishers, and captains included.

::AGRICULTURE::
Uhh... gonna need help here. From what would grow around Surna in terms of crops, but also, the different labor/jobs.

::INDUSTRY RESOURCES::
Metalworking: I've got this.
Woodworking: Pretty darn good.
Stonework: Not there yet, throw some mats at me if you want. Also, maybe some of the local beasts of burden.
Tailoring: Basically all Fiber and Leather work. Ties in with agriculture, maybe list some game around Surna.
Jewelcraft: Not there yet, plenty of mats in mind, maybe tell me a bit about the Geology of Surna.
Calligraphy: Writing! Should be easy, maybe just give me a literacy rate.
Glasscrafting: Would Surna's lake give wash up brush capable of making Soda Ash?
Pitchwork: Oil, and oil related materials. Kinda curious about this one.

::PRODUCTION PROFESSIONS::
Mines: Hmm, should be okay for this. Then again, a geology buff or two might be able to help me with knowing Surna.
Smelters: I think I'm good with this one.
Lumber Yards: Uhm... not sure how many would be around Surna. Wooded coastal plain? Might be a few.
Carpenters: Depends on the above, as well as demand.
Tanners: All that leather stuff. Plenty of IC chars that are Tanners, so I'm assuming there are a bunch.
Clothiers: All dat fibers stuff. Clothes and rope.
Jewelers: People who know how to treat gemstones, and can design jewelry.
Scribes: People paid to write, damn, wish that was still around.
Scholars: Mathematicians, scientists, alchemists, the so on.
Engineers: Mathematicians mixed with builders. Includes architects, drafters, skilled masons, etc.
Artists: Skilled artsy folk.
Glassblowers: The people who take care of the glass after it's made. VERY ARTISAN JOB.
Smithies: All them smithies for all dat shit. Don't worry, should have this one.
Fletchers: Those who craft shafts, dowel rods, and bow limbs from wood. Also craft bows.
Wheelwrights: A specialized crafter of wheels of varying sorts.

Wheel Wrights: Made their wheels right, and write
Fletchers: They made the silent pew pews and the silent pew pew shooters

Added both, praying the first one was a serious wheelmakers profession. probably works under general Artisanship, but, is perhaps desired enough to have it. Might come up if someone wants to buy a carriage.

I would focus only on the broadest professions, such as blacksmith, farmer, or tailor, and then maybe list some examples of each. Otherwise you're going to get a list that's extremely long and meaningless.

A lore entry such as this could give people ideas of what to be besides "adventurer," and that's good.

The idea is not to have a detailed listing of every industry, but to compile information as so that I might be able to create as realistic an economy as possible. Trust me, most of this information, as I meant to suggest, is preliminary. I'll use this to produce a more valid listing of prices, demand, and so on for items.

Having said this, a lot of it is in fact, msot likely, not entirely necessary. But I would rather have more than less. XDD Mostly just asking for information on what you guys feel is important, and what you guys can contribute on.

Update:

I have a system going, it's doing pretty well, but I could really use help with the following information from people who might know a thing or two about it:

Stone:
Anyone here in masonry that might know a thing or two about a few different types of stone; I'd really appreciate it.

Gemstones:
Anyone who wants to do this; even if you have NO bearing on gemstones whatsoever, I'd be willing to let someone just give me values of common-ness for these. I think Pat needs to tell me Cordonium.

Alchemy:
Someone in the Alchemy know how give me some information on the alchemy system, and how one does alchemical shite?

Tanning:
We got like five tanner chars in Surna, can one of them tell me the state of affairs on their jobs? Do they get their hands on enough leather, do people want leather goods? etc.

After that, I just need to work on some lesser stuff, and the economics might actually be in a state I can call it DONE.
