Race suggestion: Dwarves Empty
PostSubject: Race suggestion: Dwarves   Race suggestion: Dwarves EmptyMon Aug 27, 2012 8:58 am

Ello, my name is Atlas and my friend Dom brought me over. I have yet to be on the server yet but i have read through all of the races lore and decided i would make a short suggestion for the dwarf race.

Just in advance, these dwarves are slightly based off of the warhammer fantasy dwarves. Also, sorry for the crappy structr, I am on my phone driving around the backroads of (Somewhat) Isolated Canada

And im just going to make it sweet and short

The dwarves of Terranum

Terranum, one of the most isolated and hidden kingdoms of Aeria. Hundreds of miles past the frozen wastes reside the frozen mountains of Than'el, a deadly mountain range where life is more rare than gold. Below the Than'el mountains lives the lively kingdom of Terranum, the kingdom of Dwarves, and the opposing Dragonkin clans. The caverns of the Than'el mountain range are some of the most inhospitable, and mineral rich caves in all of Aeria. With little places with running water and edible food, the clans and kingdom were constantly at war. The heavily armed and technolgically advanced dwarves against the small groups of the exremely powerful dragonkin.

Year 100-350

The dwarves continue to contest the dragonkin for the small pockets of necessary resources with equal amounts of success onboth sides. The dwarves begin to devise seige machines and traps capable of decemating the small clans of dragonkin.

Year 350-750
The swarves devise a plan to exterminate the dragonkin forever and begins to mobize their entire forces towards the largest of the small water springs, a place considered holy by the dragonkin. A small clan of dragonkin had built their settlement around this spring and were alerted of this large force of dwarves. They sent envoys to all of the dragonkin clans in the area and called for a plea of help. Once, hostile to their own kind, the other clans sent all of their forces to help defend the sacred spring. The new threat of the united clans had not reached the main force before it had arrived at the spring and the entire army was decimated. The loss of the main army had left the capitol defenceless. The clans began their counter attack and seized the capital. It wasn't long before the other smaller settlements were captured. This was the beggining of the dark days for the dwarves, now enslaved and under the rule of the dragonkin. All of the technology the dwarves had devised over their glory days had been lost or destroyed, their monarchy gone and their grand capital coated in polished marble, gold and steel in ruins.

The dwarves began their new lives in work camps and underground farms. The dragonkin used the dwarves for their natural expertice of weapon crafting to arm themselves and maintain their power. They began to force their religion onto the dwarves, calling their "crusade" rightous in the name of the dragon goddess Akel'shak, the supposed mother of all dragons. The dwarves continued to live on, completely helpess against their powerful leaders.

Mid 700

The dwarves begin to learn of the dragonkin's power source, the magical runes created by the dragonkin shamans. The slaves create an underground ring in the workcamps. They send out people to locate and steal these runes from the dragonkin and return them to the new shamans of the dwarves. They begin to duplicate these runes and seek ways on how to create new and destroy the older runes in hope of staggering the strength of the dragonkin

750- 800 The runic rebellion

The workcamps begin to rebel, now weilding runic weapons and armor. The dragonkin are caught offguard from the new power of their foes. They quickly respond to deal with the reborn threat of the dwarves. Now locked in a rebellion, the shamans are forced to work harder to find a way to destroy the dragonkin runes which are protected by strong magic. The dragonkin struggle but begin to quell the rebellion, slaughtering entire camps filled with thousands of workers. The shamans decide to try a method that they had thought would cause death to the holder of the rune and major injury to those around them, they fused two runes together. This outcome was unexpected, the runes had turned into sapphires and the magic had shot out at a nearby dragonkin and had calmed the enraged dragon's mind. The shamans quickly sent word out to the other workcamps and the tide of the war was changed.

The dwarven shamans had organized a final push onto the dominate dragonkin clan's holy ground, the site of where the dwarven forces were defeated hundreds of years ago. The dragonkin elders came out in a raged flurry and challenged the shamans in traditional dragonkin combat, the tradition the dragonkin reserve to crown the clan leader. The shamans had agreed and decided against fusing two of their most powerful runes. They had fought against the dragonkin elders and won, their runic armor proving to be almost indestructable and their runic weapons to be sharper than anything else. This had scored the final victory for the dwarves and ended the runic rebellion.

The shamans now the only source of government of the dwarves begin to set out tthe rules and laws, including the decree to destroy all runes that are too powerful for an individual to control, fearing for ghe fact that the dragonkin could go mad again from the power of these runes.

800-975

The dwarves begin to rebuild their lost empire with the help of their new dragonkin allies. Now faced with the problem of a larger joined population to feed, the shamans orders large groups of warriors, tradesmen and envoys to travel past the frozen wastes and explore the corners of the world and find trade partners to help feed their starving people. Although now allied and living amoungst eachother, the dragonkin are banned from leaving the caverns of the Than'el mountain range.

While it's great that you want to contribute to the lore, the dwarves just happen to be one of the ones that actually has lore already, but no one has posted it up here yet. Pat could probably explain better, but if you look under "the World of Aeria" in the Librarium, you should get some of the most up to date lore. And, welcome to Oldenrp!

Doesn't mean you couldn't have some of your ideas incorporated into the lore, I'm sure if there's anything compatiable that could work, Pat would be all too happy see if they could fit.

Unless none of it can, in which case we're very sorry <3

Bah i was just hoping that the runes would be the dwarves only source of magic. What i wrote was probally crap anyways as i was driving around for a while and i dont know the lore all to well xD

Edit: Well I'm home and now its easier to see what I have, didn't intend to actually post it yet but my phone derped when I was writing it and posted it. I may just try to fix it as I go along unless its pointless to do so. (Please tell me if its gonna be pointless to write) Although, I highly incourage the thought of runes though, so you can have runes crafted such as

Armor runes- (All runes add small effects- nothing like LOL MY ARMOR IS INDESTRUCTABLE or MY SWORD SHOOTS OUT FLAMES)
Increased Toughness
Resistance to Peircing
Weight runes- Makes it lighter
Magic Wards- Add a small resistance to magic
Less Impact- For shields

Weapon Runes-
Increased/Decreased Weight
Improved Sharpness
Resistance to Chipping/Breaking

Another Edit: Maybe even have dwarves like this as a seperate kingdom of other dwarves or maybe call them something other than dwarves, idk like Frozen Dwarves or something (I'm bad with names, it took me 30 minutes to think of the names of the mountains xD)

It's possible that they could be a different race from our current dwarves, but what we call dwarves right now are very different from "traditional" dwarves, they're actually a sub-race of elves.

Race suggestion: Dwarves Empty
PostSubject: Re: Race suggestion: Dwarves   Race suggestion: Dwarves EmptyMon Aug 27, 2012 4:26 pm

Okay, this is the current lore, as it is in the world of Aeria thread.

The Dvergar, or 'Dwarves', are the reclusive race of master craftsmen, armorers, and engineers that live in great cities of stone and machinery deep under the Khadrins. Rarely seen beyond their 'Karaks', they have been stereotyped as burly, stout, obscene men. The Dvergar are actually a sub-race of the Elves, and appear as such. The Dvergar are infamous for their technological prowess, far surpassing the efforts of any other people in the known world. The Dvergar make extensive use of mechanical constructs, both humanoid and otherwise, for a wide-array of tasks, ranging from cleanliness to waging war. Dvergar craftsmanship is far beyond the skill of any other race; so-called Dvergan armor renders the wearer nearly invincible to normal arms, and makes use of their mysterious technological advances, making the wearer stronger and the armor feel far lighter. The Dvergar are known to have escaped the deep-earth cataclysm that devastated the Daefar, through unknown means.

Basically, Aeria's "dwarves" are an off-shoot of the Elves, and aren't the classic short, bearded, obscene warrior dwarves. Infact, they shouldn't really be called Dwarves at all, because they aren't short. They're really called the Golden Elves, because they're known for replacing their own nervous systems with gold ( a highly magically conductive metal in our lore) and also for grafting gold plates to their skin and faces, which are really complex pieces of magical enchantment. They're also not located in the wastes, but south of Sanctimonia, in Karak Zigil.

Also, the Dragonkin's source of power is not really runes. I mean, yeah, Dragonkin mages might use runes, which are called Sigil, plural Sigillum, in our lore, which is really just the written language of magic. But the Dragonkin don't rely on runes especially or anything.

Furthermore, the Dragonkin and the Golden Elves don't really live alongside each other.

So, from here, I can see two choices. The Golden Elves are so different from traditional dwarf lore, it's possible that we could have traditional dwarves exist, too. But if that was the case, I'd feel Jacque would jump right on it with his own lore. Which I might prefer. I'm uncomfortable with this lore as it stands now.

The other choice is that you want this lore merged with the Golden Elf lore, which, I'm afraid, would mean much of it being dismantled and lost. I'd incorporate what I could, but much of your story would be gone. The Golden Elf lore is also one of those things I wouldn't want to modify heavily or hand over to someone else.

I don't really care if I lose most of it, I meant it as a suggestion at first but then I got carried away and contnued to write xD but it does kinda feel a bit like the Elder Scrolls series where the Dwemer were elves too and having the short stout guys with heavy armor is always fun to have

ill give you a hint

pat is obsessed with the elder scrolls

but, even if he wasn't, the lore very much fits the setting of aeria better than short stout stocky guys.

i mean, really, if you desperately need one of those, humans can be short and stocky, too. gimli's actor was a human, after all, no matter how much you deny it in your heart.
