PostSubject: Dirk the Weaponsmith   Dirk the Weaponsmith EmptyMon Apr 09, 2012 9:35 am

Dirk the Weaponsmith Browncladswordsmananime

Full Name: Dirk (doesn't use last name, see backstory)
Gender: Male
Age: 26
Race: Human
Birthplace: Orgristead (Approx 100 miles Southeast of Surna)
Occupation: Weaponsmith

Abilities:
- Specialty is Scythes and Axes, But can make Hammers and Swords
- Good Improviser
- Can hunt well

Faults:
- Picky Eater
- Does not like large crowds of people

Main Weapon: - Dual Scythes -
As a child working near the peasant villages, he often helped out on farms. As he was fond of harvest time, he usually contributed with a scythe of his very own. After his village was raided by bandits, he survived out in the forests and wandering cities with the only tools he had at the moment of the raid. Dirk loved the scythe very much, almost as if it were his own during his teenage years. After saving up enough money by doing the odd job, he bought a second scythe. As time went on, he trained himself in the art of dual wielding. As a tool and weapon, Dirk was adept with their use.

Abilities:

Trained in Axes

Axes being relatively easy to create and acquire, Dirk has trained with axes from the moment he started his own shop. Should anyone attack the shop, he could find a weapon close by. In return for training, Dirk made weapons for the Lord's knights of Orgristead.

Adept in Scythe Combat

Dirk sought help from various trainers wandering from city to city in his teenage years, some of which taught him new skills.
Practicing daily with the only weapons he ever really owned, he trained day and night with trainers in the cities and with local guides. Dirk went to tournaments to win money, but found out that his scythe (and later scythes) were sometimes no match for the opponent's weapon. Feeling beaten after every other tournament, Dirk decided to become a master at his weapon and perhaps eventually surprise everyone with his unique skill.

Things to know:

- Dirk uses all sorts of scythes, including techniques used by Dante in the videogame "Dante's Inferno". However, almost all of the time he uses his two small farming scythes as weapons, in a style similar to Ulaks. The blade is much like a sickle, but has a longer handle.

- Dirk isn't picky about what's in his cigarettes. If it burns slowly and smells good, he smokes it. Eating it is another story.

- ONE OF THE BIGGEST THINGS ABOUT DIRK IS THAT HE CAN'T MAKE ARMOR. HE CAN'T EVEN MAKE SHIELDS. His entire focus is on weapons and weapons alone. Sadly, Dirk doesn't even know how to make any sort of weapon higher than steel. No bows, no crossbows, no helmets, no gloves, no boots, not anything even remotely simple. The highest Dirk ever got was ironing clothes.

- Dirk can't also make any sort of primarily wood device, such as bows or crossbows. Arrows are a challenge, as he usually breaks the wood attempting to straighten it. Bolts are also equally hard to have Dirk make.

- BACKSTORY -

As a young boy, Dirk was the son of a blacksmith who worked in a peasant village near Orgristead. His last name was Kulch, as most of his friends used to call him by. Most of what Dirk had learned was from the art of blacksmithing, as making small weapons like daggers at the age of 9, and making swords and axes at the age of 11. One day, Dirk was playing in the fields with his friends when suddenly, seeming from the direction of the city, a large troop of bandits rode in. Many who were out near the tents and huts with mowed down with the bandit's weapons, and those who were not lucky enough to be killed on the spot were dragged out of their homes and forced to see their loved ones die. Dirk attempted to run back to his parents to save them, but was caught trying to do so. Dirk was forced to watch his father's throat slit by the head bandit and his mother raped. As the bandits thought it was worthless to kill children, they left him to the burnt out husk of his home. From that point on, Dirk vowed revenge on the bandit tribe. Seeming that he had no more family, he dropped his last name.

For many years Dirk wandered the forests and countryside, looking for those who stole his life. Armed only with what he could gather from the remains of the village, he brought along his farming scythe and clothes. Dirk passed through many cities seeking training, food, and a place to stay. At various times he was taught new skills about his trade, and was even helped by a magician for a short time. At the age of 22, Dirk found the bandit camp and spared no one from the onslaught of his scythe. As Dirk became engaged in combat with the bandit leader, Dirk promised that he would let him live, to feel his pain that he had felt throughout his wandering years. At the age of 23, Dirk decided to settle down and start a family in the city near his home. Marrying a beautiful woman named Evee, he started his own blacksmithing store and was quite successful. With some of the profits he made, he bought a new, identical scythe. Only a few years later, his wife divorced him due to Dirk being too engaged in his work, taking his daughter along with her. Not a long time later, a dwarf who had once been a loyal customer stole all of Dirk's goods while Dirk was away on a business trip. Returning to find everything gone but the store, he decided that he would again take up his scythe and look for the dwarf. It is through three years of traveling that Dirk has once again picked up the trail of the dwarf and it has led him here to a land called Surna.

(And by the way, I did happen to borrow an image done by Psyche. If you don't want it up here, tell me, but this is the best representation of him I could find on the web)

When you say "Scythe", do you mean as in the actual full-length two-handed farming implement or the smaller hand-held version? If it's the former, then I doubt there would be any efficiency to a fighting style which involves holding one in each hand.

I'm going to assume this is about blacksmithing. Correct me if it's not.
A blacksmith wouldn't be particularly good at crafting firearms and the like. That would be a gunsmith, tinkerer, inventor, or whatever you want to call it. Someone who works with finer details when it comes to crafts. A blacksmith only hammers metal until it looks good.

This is sort of picky. But if his hair is completely white, he would need to be extremely pale if not completely albino. It's how pigments and shit works as far as I know. If it's just very light blonde then nevermind.

I'm not too sure on current lore regarding this, but there might be no such thing as tobacco. And I have no real idea what you had in mind for using there, but the word "joint", in my eyes, implies the usage of marijuana or other "smoke-able" drugs.

Let's just sort these out before I start going on about the rest.

I'd like to point out that enchanting, gunsmithing and general smithing are all three entirely different professions. Any one of these is a full-time job, and not just a skill that's picked up once. Any economy anywhere would collapse if jobs worked like that. They're called professions for a reason.

I agree with Psyche, it's much better to just pick one and stick with it. It also has the dual purpose of allowing other players to create other characters under the other professions if they so wish.

Is this a town in Sanctimonia?

Also Horizon's points are very valid.

I edited this post, as this is basically the character I want to play for a good deal of time. Like a year or two.

I also had a bit of a chat with Xeloras, and he has helped me shape up my page a bit.
