PostSubject: Kuunlah Pethruu   Sat Mar 03, 2012 12:40 pm

Kuunlah Pethruu

Powers
Quote :

    1. Lightning Breath - Every Dragonborn is capable of breathing some element or other from the time it comes of age. Kuunlah's heritage allows him to breathe raw electrical energy. He can breathe it often, but it causes him become winded after about thirty seconds of repeated bursts. He has not mastered it enough to form it into spheres of electrical energy, but practices often to master it. He does not like to use his lightning breath unless he has no other option.

    2. Detect Alignment - This spell allows Kuunlah to see the nature of a being, but only for a moment. He learned this spell from the Dragon God Pethruu after many years of prayer. His healing magic is more powerful when used on the good hearted, so this spell helps him determine who to help first and last in an emergency. He only has to blink with the intent of seeing to summon the powers of the sight, but is prone to headaches after seeing.

    3. Tourniquet - Stops bleeding in a localized area. He uses this spell to temporarily stop bleeding that would otherwise drain the victim dry. Usable often because of his staff, otherwise it would drain him quickly.

    4. Seal Wound - This spell is the favorite of Kuunlah, because it is powerful enough to heal large wounds, but uses little magic with his staff. He uses it often to mend broken bones and sew up gaping wounds.

General Stats
Quote :
Strength
Dragonborn are stronger than most men and mer even at a young age. Kuunlah has not bothered with heavy exercise regiments, but is not weak. He is fit, usually carrying a heavy staff carved from a dragon femur. He does stretches for several hours each morning, making him lithe and lean.

Agility
Kuunlah is a fast dragonborn, but not a match for a mer. He can dodge some attacks, but rarely gets close enough to fight. He is small even for a dragonborn, lending him some scorn from the larger of his kind. He can only jump three feet in the air, but is an excellent climber.

Personality
Kuunlah has been alive for many years, becoming wise in his age. He often knows what to say, and rarely offends on purpose. He loves to sing in his native tongue, enchanting the many people that crowd around to hear. He rarely gets angry, convinced that anger is the path to destruction.

Will
Preferring to go with the flow, but being strict only in his disciplines, Kuunlah would rather follow the demands of a peer than get into a dispute. His breathing techniques have given him time to meditate on important things, such as love and temperance.

Combat Skill
Quote :
Generic skill
Kuunlah is a healer, so he does not fight. But that does not mean he is unwilling or incapable to swat you over the head with his bone staff. He dodges when he is is close combat, taking potshots at the backs of knees and other more "delicate" locations on enemies to get away. He does not believe in violence being the answer to any problem, mostly because of his upbringing as a healer. He refuses to take part in any battle, scuffle, or even a bar fight.

Weapon Combat
Kuunlah uses his staff as a club from time to time, tapping misbehaving youngsters on the head. He can deflect some obvious attacks with the staff, but has no formal training in defensive combat. He does not have any offensive magical spells or knowledge of how to avoid spells cast at him.

Riding & Mounted Combat
Kuunlah can ride a horse, but usually walks because he likes the exercise. He can swing his staff decently enough when mounted.

Ranged Weapons
Only capable of physically holding a gun, bow, or sling, Kuunlah dos not believe in using guns, instead preferring to avoid combat.

Unarmed Combat
Kuunlah is never without his staff, so never fights hand to hand. If he is challenged to a duel, he will likely swat the challenger on the head with his bone staff and walk away.

This actually bothers me somewhat. As I said in this bio, I prefer newer players to start with basic characters. It seems to me that so far your only character has been the ash golem, which I won't argue over in this thread.

This character is a master of unarmed combat. I'm not going to freak out on you or anything over it, but alongside this, the character is very powerful physically and can breath lightning, and can control fire, electricity and the air itself by speaking. I don't trust you as a roleplayer yet, and applying for a character with all these powers makes me more nervous, rather than reassured.

I apologize, but I believe I'm going to deny this, and strongly recommend you put this character on hold for now.

I agree with Psyche. This character seems a bit powerful.

An issue that was around before and seems to be arising again is that of powered characters. Characters that seem almost oriented around combat. They generally make for poor passive RP and turn the town into a massive power playground. One comes around, looks cool, inspires others. Then someone makes a powerful character. Then someone makes a more powerful character to counter/compete. Repeat and repeat until gods roam Surna (this actually happened before, too).

I don't think there's much hope in stopping it at this point. But for the moment...this character seems too powerful. Reject.

I have made a complete character change, going from OP to balanced. Kuunlah is now a Cleric, not a fighter. Please reassess your character application votes. Any new modifications have not been labeled, so you will have to go find them yourself. Sorry. I agree that my previous version was kind of silly for such a new player as myself, thus I overhauled the application as well as completely changing the character. He is still able to breathe lightning though.

I've rped alot with Phoenix, he pretty great, he also does his homework on lore and stuff.

He doesn't rp half assed, he's always prepared.
I've spoke to him about the dragon tongue, the elements he has rudimentary control over would be like barely directing them at a really low power

like a gentle breeze.

Acceptemente

Is there even lore on the Dragonborn and Dragontongue? I've never heard of it before outside of Skyrim.

Indeed there is lore on the Dragonborn/dragonkin. In fact, they are one in the same. The dragons do in fact speak their own ancient language, which is old and somewhat primal, and at the most can sway the natural world around them. Not to the extent you see in the Skyrim game, but more like being able to make a candleflame dance from across an empty room with just a few words. At least for Dragonkin that is the case. The lore is being worked on by Pat at the moment, so the closest you will get is the dragonborn Homebrewed race from D&D.

I'm sorry, but I don't see how this is any improvement. I never once brought up the terms "OP" or "balanced" in my complaint.

There is nothing on this "dragontounge" in any lore here. While the dragonkin lore is being redone I think it is incorrect to assume such powerful abilities based on Dungeons and Dragons lore. I am going to deny this but it is subject to change upon a more detailed explanation.

I agree. Characters don't have to be powerful to be interesting.

Though Fe was a bit overpowered at first, Phoenix toned him down a bit after a while which shows he's willing and able to learn. I think he's learned what overpowered is and can apply it to this character. I'm going to throw in my accept.

You're missing Psyche's point.

What Psyche is trying to tell you is that new players should have characters that are fairly normal.
That means little to no magic, no magical or enchanted items, no massively overpowered skills, and no super-rare races.

So what I think would be best is if you just put this character on hold, and make a new one that's fairly normal. This allows you to show us that you're a capable roleplayer and can be trusted with more advanced characters.
That and you learn to be a bit more humble when it comes to roleplay.

Once you've proven you can handle a normal character you can have another go at passing this one, and you'll most likely find that it'll be met with little critique.

People often seem to misinterpret "overpowered" as, "able to easy kill people". But it can also apply to defensive characters too. Say your character is a pacifist, but they have a magic shield that can deflect any attack from any source that could harm the user. That's still overpowered, even if they have no means of attacking people.

But yeah, try making a more "normal" character. They can have an interesting past, but make their skills minimal (able to use a bow sufficiently enough to hunt etc.). They can excel in a skill, but keep it mind magic is rare in this setting, atleast it's supposed to be.

I would say that it doesn't even matter whether you've "proven yourself" or not. Phoenix does seem to be capable of RPing such things responsibly, that isn't really the problem - at least from my perspective. The problem is when characters like this start to become more common than normal characters. Surna is a town in a country run and populated primarily by humans and elves. Dragonkin, golems, and the like are not totally out of the question as characters, but they should be somewhat rare to this area. We already have a golem and a crapload of tieflings (excluding the recent influx of golems, wolves, and whatnot). We need some more humans, and players should try and make at least one ordinary character instead of a bunch of eccentric ones.

I would like to apologize. I am not any good at "normal" characters. I think it might have something to do with my autism, but I could just prefer more eccentric characters. Both Mack and Munroe make valid points, there seems to be a large increase in tieflings, among other magical creatures (golems and such), but you can't blame me or scold me. I did not vote any of the tieflings in to action, other people did. I understand that there needs to be a limit, so that you don't end up with gods on the street and such, but if the limit is too far on the other side, nobody will want to play from sheer boredom. I think that in order for this to work, there needs to be some ground rules set in place, one of which I think I can provide. The first is that everyone is required to play at least two "normal human/elf characters" for at least a week each. Then they can apply for one of X number of character slots for other races/creatures.

The other point made, which will lead me to my next idea, was that I should put this character on hold. Instead of putting the character in the denied category, put it in a "Waiting Characters" topic in the character compendium page, otherwise it will collect dust as any item thrown in the thrash tends to do. This topic would be for characters that are not OP/unrealistic/whatever, but rather cannot fit into olden at the moment, either because there are too many eccentric characters, such as tieflings or golems or whatever, or because the player that is asking for the character has not shown himself/herself capable of handling such a character at that point.

Those are my ideas. Please make the new CC topic or just let me know (by Steam Chat) if you are going to move the character to denied so that I can pull the raw info and you can just delete the thread.

While I agree with Munroe to some extent, I'd rather be entertained with the sheer amount of interesting characters and unusual characters walking about for my nerdy side to poke questions at than fucking bored.

The I think the line should be drawn on how many POWERFUL characters are walking around in town, not 'strange' ones so what I like to call the Dragon Ball Z effect doesn't take place where you have people constantly having to make more and more powerful characters to keep up with the ever-growing number of other powerful characters which causes people who want to make characters even more powerful then them have to push their characters powerlevels above the current already powerful threshold which causes other people to have to push their characters up even more to compensate and the cycle repeats itself til everyone's power levels are OVER 9000. Soon enough we'll have a town filled with demigods capable of blowing the whole fucker up at a whim. This is what happened to the old Olden and I think when Picard disapproves with this happening you better fucking listen to him.

But yeah, as long as this character isn't too powerful I don't really care that much. My definition of an overpowered character is someone who can take on three people at the same time of any skillset, even if they are simply those who use swords and bows with no magical powers. (unless one of the three are unarmed civilians, don't have their proper weapons or are meant to be underpowered), or a character who can disable another character without even giving them a chance to fight. The only people who should be above this rule are those who have characters only meant for events or 'boss' characters like Phespherone.
