PostSubject: Graal oh Otonami   Wed Feb 29, 2012 10:03 am

Quote :
Full Name: Graal oh Otonami
Gender: Male
Age: 4 years
Race: Timber Wolf
Languages: Common (Understands, does not speak), Vulftung (Can speak and understand)
Birthplace: Sanctimonia
Occupation: Kerl (lone wolf)
Family: Dead (Burnt to death in a controlled extermination)

Quote :
Alignment: True Neutral
Saints: Tor and Fenris
Appearance:
Graal is a grizzled wolf for his age, time apart from others of his kind has given him much time for contemplation and deep thoughts, his mind is deep and full of complex ideologies and concepts, he has been to many places and seen much. His grey fur is dappled with darker and lighter patches that covers his numerous knotted scars. He is not particularly tall for a wolf, though his shoulders are broad, and could develop further into stronger wolves if Graal ever decides to train, but he prefers to talk his way out of a fight rather than fight his way out of trouble.

Personality:
Although he seeks companionship in any pack that is willing to accept him, he is not looking to be accepted as a fighter, but as a teacher and a carer, he has finally realised that if he remains a wanderer, he will slowly lose his mind to lonely bitterness.
Graal is relatively peaceful, always asking permission to tread on lands owned by other packs, wanting to learn more, wanting to pass on what he knows and wanting to please others by offering his assistance. However, his honour is the one thing that he has struggled to maintain during his life, and he will rise to the bait if he is insulted enough.

Quote :
Biography:

The lessons of life are often the hardest lessons to learn, the lessons of living, harder so.
My name is Graal, and my story is short, though not without deep regret and bitterness.
This is the way of life, and as it should be.

I began far, far to the west, where the sun set deep into the lush green oceans of conifer and birch.
I had a pack once, the Otonami Pack, and we ran free and wild, uncontested in our land.
Then came the year without water.
Not one day did it rain during that time.
The forests cracked and crumbled, suffering deep pain with the deaths of it's denizens, many of which were my brothers and sisters.
Those of us who had weaker ties to the pack, we left.
It was not a proud moment, the decision to turn tail and flee, run from the land which I called home since by birth.
I ran east, following week-old trails of Elk and Boar alike, following them to the pitiful excuses for watering holes, tiny puddles, insect filled swamps where the water crunched.
But I survived, which is how I tell you this now.
I kept going, following trails of my fellow wolves when I could. I was following a trail made by a small group of wolves, barely hours old, it looked like 2 pups, a large male, and a small female. A family. They ambushed me when I stopped to rest, pinning me to the ground, and I was amazed at the ferocity of that wolf who stood on my ribs, looking down at me as I flattened against the floor, signifying my defeat and surrender, he asked me who I was, and I told him.
He said he'd never heard of the Otonami Pack, and that I was lying, I begged him, told him that I wasn't lying, told him who was the Alpha, the leader of our pack, and he had never heard of my Alpha, and said that no wolves lived in the eastern lands, they were dead. He told me that a fire killed them all, that the humans started it.
He let me up, told me to stay away, to keep from his family, his pack.
I ran further east, trying to distance myself from the burning of my heart , but a wolf cannot escape himself.
So I ran to a port, one where I knew I'd be safe, Vulfen traders were there, and they'd help me escape.
Escape to this land of strange creatures, and stranger men.
To a land I never thought existed.
I am here, and I am here to stay, at least for a while.
Yes.
I think I will stay for a while.
Perhaps I will even make a new pack, here in this strange land.
Perhaps I will make the land mine.

Quote :
Bloodlines and Vulftung:

Graal cannot, by any stretch of the imagination, be considered a true wolf.
He considers himself Vulfen-kin, which is a mix of wolf and werewolf. In other words, a wolf with an expanded anatomy to allow for verbal communication, at a stretch.
To combat the ever-failing understandings between the Vulfen-kin and Vulfen in their human forms, they developed a language between the two packs that would enable the two to communicate fluently regardless of form.
As the Vulfen-kin expanded, granted greater healing speeds and intelligence than their fellow wolves, they effectively took over a large portion of the land, and the Vulfen left. Over several generations, the strength of their blood faded, leaving wolves with lesser powers.
Graal consequently has faster than average healing for a wolf, what would take a month may take a week less to heal.
He also has an expanded awareness, his thoughts bordering on human intelligence.
However, to balance these perks, the Vulfen-kin all have the same weakness as their werewolf fore-fathers:
Silver wounds may not kill or even in-capacitate them, but it slows the healing of the wound down by double, making it take longer to heal than a normal wolf, and if silver stays in their system, such as after being ingested, it leads to a slow and painful death.

whats with all the animal characters

also, Ara'Ki is near impossible to get to, and I highly doubt traders would exist who casually go between Ara'Ki and Sanctimonia. There are magical, and highly deadly storms surrounding Ara'Ki 24/7 and they are nearly impenetrable. Unless you give me some logical way these "traders" could've gotten to Ara'Ki, I'm going to deny it

Timber wolves are not a sentient race of beings. They don't have a language called Volftung, they don't have saints, and unless this is some sort of special, magical wolf, I don't see how you could RP it in the server.

this as well, I was looking at Volftung and I couldn't find anything about it in the lore. Wolves in this RP are just as normal as wolves in real life.

Look, hold on, it's a WIP, I was changing it. >.<
Is there anywhere ELSE in Aeria which has both freezing shores and conifers?
I was just going by where the land would fit, it's not set in stone just yet.
As for his bloodline, I'll add that in.
He's not TOTALLY timberwolf, which explains why he has his own language.

22:45 - BooM: Animali is what you are looking for
22:46 - Graal: No. :| Vulftung is a specialised language formed between his pack, and a neighbouring pack of werewolves, so very, VERY few people can actually speak it, regardless of the fact that it is quite easy to understand
22:47 - Graal: Voh ken?
22:49 - Graal: Vulftung is pronouncable by humans, which is why it was developed.
22:51 - Graal: It was made so that wolves and werewolves in human form could communicate fluently without need for transformation in order to understand.

as for the location, Sanctimonia would serve fine. it has snowy winters and coniferous trees.

I just noticed that. Sorry if this sounds harsh, kicker, but this isn't a Wolf RP, it's a Fantasy RP, centered around people. Animals are, for the most part, just animals, and I see no reason to change that. I wouldn't deny this if it were a special case, some sort of enchanted wolf or something, though I'm not sure I'd accept it wholeheartedly either as I'm somewhat against animal characters in general.

Also, I don't think Animali is a valid language either, but I could be wrong.

Still doesn't make sense. Werewolves are sterile and incapable of speech.

Where was this established? I've read plenty of legends about werewolves having children with both humans and wolves.

I assure you, in a human form, a werewolf is not mute.
In werewolf form, words are barely legible, thus the creation of a new language, a guttural, growling tongue understandable by both wolf and man.
As for their wolf form, they would appear as the Vulfen-kin, but simply larger.

Animali is technically a valid language, though I'm not sure if there are any humans that know how to speak it. Though I imagine that there's some.

Don't argue semantics with me. The werewolf lore can be found here.

Werewolves have no genitals. that's how it works. As for humans and wolves interbreeding, that's also impossible.

Woahwoahwoah!
What!?
Since when did transformation into a half-human monster cut your sack off!?
I can kinda understand them being sterile, despite the contrast with both ancient legend and popular modern fiction, but being WITHOUT genitals!?

In werewolf form, yes. In human form genitals come back.

In this RP, werewolves are a creation of Voar, God of Bloodlust and the Hunt. They're designed to be the perfect hunters. Having a huge vulnerable spot in the form of genitalia is unnecessary and distracts from the werewolf's true purpose. In human form, lycanthropes still have genitals, anyway, so the condition doesn't cause you to permanently become a eunuch.

And while I'm not very well-read on the subject, I don't see how it contradicts ancient legend or popular fiction, as nothing I've seen or heard about werewolves explicitly states they can have sex. If you're going to try and include Twilight in this discussion, get out.

Honestly, I think you're just asspulling reasons now.
Just go ahead and deny the character if you hate it so much.
Looks like my only shot at getting back into Gmod RP with a character I can actually play has been batted down.

After playing Marcus Tyler, (RPing as a wolf but using a human character to do it), Cercius from DERP (I RPd more as the wolves than the man himself) and so long as SO's Cercius and Graal, I actually can't create a human character anymore.
I can't even act human at college, according to my friends, so what's the point in trying to Roleplay a human?

Maybe it's just the fact that I haven't slept in 4 nights, but it really feels like you're already against me.
So I'll be off for the night, perhaps you'll simply deny Graal on this Roleplay, but it doesn't really matter to me, I only joined again after trying so hard to stay away (for this very reason), because BooM said it would be different, more open to new ideas, and asked me to apply.

God, wouldn't Blitz just have the time of his life pointing out how angsty I am?

As for the popular fiction werewolf being sterile, have you READ any werewolf novels?
The Wolf Gift - the main character screws every woman he comes across (romantically, of course)
Any Kelly Armstrong book - So... Much... Sex...
Frostbitten - A werewolf tale - nothing like these werewolves, but still, they are able to breed.
Dancing With Werewolves - Families of breeding werewolves
Wolfborn - The werewolf protagonist is with child by the end of the book I think, I may have to reread that.
Do I need to go on?

Nobody's ass-pulling anything. We're not against you, we're trying to help you make this lore-accurate. I already gave you a way to make this work (enchanted wolf). There's no reason to get so defensive.

If you want to leave, fine, I'm sorry you feel that way.

If any of those involve the werewolf having sex in human form, they're irrelevant, because I've already acknowledged that werewolves in human form have genitalia. For fuck's sake, why are we even arguing about this? Is it too much to ask for no anthropomorphic wolf sex?

This isn't Dark Espadon, people are not encouraged to invent a bunch of new canon, especially not when it contradicts previous lore. Like it or not, lycanthropy lore in Olden is pre-established.

We don't care about werewolf fiction outside Olden. At all.

If this bothers you, then we're sorry. If you're going to be abrasive because the canon and roleplay doesn't revolve to suit your wants, then don't expect any courtesy

I'd like to request this thread be locked by an admin before the argument gets out of hand.

Locking this thread to prevent any rage or flaming.

Kicker, I'm sorry to hear that you'd want to leave us, but if you want to talk to Pat or myself about this, we'd be happy to help. We're only trying to ensure continuity in the lore, and quality check the characters to make sure they'd be able to fit well in the environment. We're not teaming up against you, and I'm sorry you feel that you feel we are.
